Marigold
Kamla Kakaria (Seattle, WA)
Marigold, 2007
Beeswax, paper, pigment on board
20”h x 24”w each
“This current body of work titled Marigold is about beauty and joy. Growing up I went to many Indian weddings and whenever I think about them I see marigolds. I wanted to create pieces that were semi-sculptural, high relief which I term 2 ½ D that reach out into the viewer’s space. I use white to emphasize light and shadow as well as the beauty of form. I find the process of creating repeating forms completely engaging and the visceral nature of the encaustic wax recalls the lusciousness of an Indian wedding.”
