Viola Hansen Patterson was a Seattle-area artist known for her Abstract Expressionist paintings. She studied at the University of Washington, was influenced by Japanese artists, taught art to children, and was married to the painter Ambrose McCarthy Patterson.

Martha Kingsbury interviewed Viola Patterson at the artist’s home in Seattle in 1982 for the Archives of American Art, Smithsonian Institution. A transcript of this interview is available online.
