Stolen Car

Aaron Linn (Brooklyn, NY)
Formica, plywood
5’8”h x 10’2”w

“When living in the neighborhood of Bushwick in Brooklyn, New York stolen cars kept appearing. They would be missing tail lights, maybe a door or hood. Some cars would be set on fire, possibly to remove evidence. The Fire Department would remove the hood and roof of the cars to extinguish the fire. Within a few hours the car would become a dumping place for trash. I became interested in the chaos of these stolen cars. In the construction of my wall drawings I was trying to come up with a way to build sturdy lines on the wall. The white of the Formica blends into the white of the wall leaving just the lines. I cut the lines out with a router, exposing the natural brown of the laminate. The drawing is composed of interlocking panels which add variety and complexity to the drawing as well as easy of transportation.”
